Epson Stylus SX400 review

Although not the best in their class Epson have always offered good value for money multifunction inkjet printers and this seems to have continued with their latest offering the SX400. With a price tag under £70 it is considerable cheaper than most of its competitors while still managing to offer great performance figures. Some of these figure however are a little exaggerated, the print speed in particular. Epson claim the SX400 is capable of up to 34 p ages per minute but this refers to printing in draft mode and the print quality in draft mode leaves a lot to be desired, increasing the quality setting to normal reduces the speed considerably. Running cost for the SX400 are averages with a set of printer ink cartridges costing around £30. The Epson SX400 ink cartridges are different from its competitors because each colour has its own separate cartridges which saves money in the long run as it means when only one colour ink runs out it gets replaced and the other colours are unaffected. If the price of the genuine Epson inks seems too expensive there are great value compatibles available for half the price. Being a multifunctional device the SX400 offers more than just printing, although it does print all types of documents extremely well. It also offer scanning and photo coping facilities to a high standard, the scanner comes with software for editing photos so is easy capable of converting old film photographs in digital format. The photo copier is one of the SX400 functions that works without the need for a PC and the same goes for the memory card reader and LCD screen which enable direct photo printing.
